USB Flash Drives: Tips on repairing a USB flash drive:

 Have you been upset about your USB flash drive that is not working anymore? Don’t worry. You can try formatting the USB drive to make it work again. Things you require:

   1. Operating system (restore) disk.    
   2. Operating system serial key.  
   3. USB flash drive in good working condition for comparing /testing.    

Stated below are some steps to follow in this regard: 

Method One:  

Step one:

Insert the USB flash drive into a USB port on your PC. In case, it is detected, it will be displayed in your "My Computer" within a few seconds.  

 
Step two:

 Right click on the flash USB drive icon. Now left click on format. Choose fat32 for windows operating systems further than 98.   

Step three:

Now click "start". This will start the process of formatting. Remember that the process of formatting will remove everything on the device.   

Step four:

Use the USB drive again. 

Method Two: 

Step one:

Copy all data from your hard drive to another one. You may also consider copying on CDs or DVDs. 

Step two:

Turn off your PC. 

Step three:

Now insert the flash USB drive to a USB port. 

Step four:

Turn on your PC. 

Step five:

Now press the F8 key when asked to get to your system bios. Your PC may also require the Delete or F2 key instead of F8. You would see a note displayed on the screen that indicates the key.

Step six:

Navigate your bios. You may use cursor keys in order to boot from CD drive. Now save and exit. 

Step seven:

Now its time to insert your Operating System Restore disc. This should restart your PC. In case, it doesn’t, just restart it yourself. 

Step eight:

You must follow the instructions to install operating system. Once you see the option ‘select which drives to format’ you would notice that the list contains USB disk. 

Step nine:

Now its time to format the disk with FAT32 for Win98. You need to Format with NTFS for anything after Win98. You may now choose to navigate out of the operating system install. This depends on your options. In case, the operating system was running well earlier, you may leave other drives and stop the re-installation. 

Step ten:

You need to reset the PC to boot from the disc drive. The operating system should be on. The flash drive must be detecting and usable in windows. In case, you did not get the option to quit re-installation, keep following the instructions onscreen and complete the re-installation. You also require formatting requisite drives. 

Some Tips: 

Make sure you have a formatting tool to reformat USB drive beforehand. The task of re-installing an operating system is a serious task. In case, you are not able to reach desired results via following steps stated above, the circuits and devices may have some serious internal damage.
